Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Africa
In spite of the fact that mountain gorilla trekking remains one of the most intriguing activities carried out by travelers from all over the world, it still remains one of the most interesting. A trekking experience or gorilla tracking is a process that involves travelers (trekkers), armed rangers, and tour guides heading deep into the forest with the aim of tracking habituated mountain gorillas in the jungle through different trails in search of habituated mountain gorillas.
In Africa, mountain gorilla trekking starts with a briefing at the park headquarters about what to do and what not to do while trekking gorillas at around 7:00 am in the morning. The trekkers leave the park by 8 am to start their adventure of searching for the gorillas/ the gorilla trekking adventure/the gorilla trekking safari/ the gorilla trekking tour to begin. Upon finding a specific gorilla family, trekkers are given a one-hour opportunity to be in the presence of the endangered mountain gorillas while learning about different behaviors of the gorillas, including feeding, breastfeeding, copulating, and nesting, if possible.
There are only three destinations in Africa that are known for mountain gorilla trekking or gorill tracking, the three destinations being Uganda / Uganda gorilla trekking. Uganda has two beautiful national parks, Bwindi impenetrable forest, and Mgahinga gorilla national park, both of which provide the best opportunity to trek mountain gorillas. As well as Rwanda, there are other places to get close to mountain gorillas, specifically in Volcanoes national park, and in Congo, there are also places to get close to mountain gorillas within Virunga national park.
