DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1; TRANSFER TO RWENZORI NATIONAL PARK
The safari guide will pick you and brief you about the Uganda safari. After you will embark on the journey to kasese and head to the rwenzori mountains national park. The journey is a 6 to 7 hours where you will have a stopover at the equator for photos and mbarara for lunch. Then after embark on the journey to kasese. On reaching to kasese, you will register with rwenzori mountaineering services and later check in your lodge for a relaxation and wait for the next day activities.
DAY 2; NYAKALENGIYA – NYABITABA HUT
After having a heavy breakfast, you will be transferred to Nyakalengiya with your hiking tools and assigned guides and porters. After you will set off for a 5 to 7 hours hike to Nyabitaba hut. The trail involves passing through the Mubuku River where you will reach Makoma River in 2 hours. After, you will continue to the steep and sloppy are next to the forest. After reaching nyabitaba hut, you will relax and wait for dinner and a night stay.
DAY 3; NYABITABA HUT – THE JOHN MATTE HUT
You will wake up early in the morning and have breakfast and then embark on the 7 hours walk to john matte hut. You will pass through Bujuku River and mubuku which are found near the steep and slippery points. After reaching john matte, you will relax as you wait for dinner and a night stay.
DAY 4; THE JOHN MATTE – THE BUJUKU HUT
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will head to bujuku hut which takes 4 to 5 hours. As you leave john matte hut, you will cross the river bujuku until you reach lake bujuku as you pass upper Bigo bog. You will enjoy the views of Mount Stanley, Mount Baker and Speke. Arrive at bujuku camp for dinner and a night stay.
DAY 5; THE BUJUKU HUT – THE ELENA HUT
The trek from bujuku hut to Elena takes 6 to 7 hours. The hut is found in the cold, rocky region of mount Stanley, you will pass through upper bigo bog and the steep slopes of Lake Bujuku to the west. You will pass through a number of swamps and the beautiful ground gully where you will reach two divided trails where one leads to Elena hut and the other trail heads to scott-elliot as you descend to kitandara hut. You will reach at Elena hut in the evening and envoy the amazing views of Mount Baker and Speke which at times is hard to spot due to fog. You will relax as you have dinner and a night stay at the hut.
DAY 6; CLIMB TO MT. STANLEY
Early in the morning, you will climb to Elena glacier and then proceed to the Stanley plateau. To make the climbing easier, you will need crampons. Thereafter, you will ascend the Margherita glacier up to the peak. After reaching to the peak, you will slope down to Elena hut for lunch, pass Kitandara Lake and proceed to kitandara hut where you will have dinner and a night stay.
DAY 7; THE KITANDARA HUT – THE GUY YEOMAN HUT
The hike to the guy yeoman hut takes 6 hours to be complete. You will leave Lake Kitandara and reach the Mount Stanley and Baker glaciers. As you proceed, you will follow a muddy trail which takes you to rock shelters where the kabamba valley starts. You will slope down to guy yeoman hut and it’s surrounded by beautiful scenery, landscape which include mountains, rivers and dense vegetation.
DAY 8; THE GUY YEOMAN HUT – THE NYABITABA HUT
After the early morning breakfast, you will climb the slopes around the river Mobuku and take the trail as you pass through the kichuchu rocks and enter the original route by the Bujuku River.
DAY 9; THE NYABITABA HUT – NYAKALENGIYA FOR DEPARTURE
You will wake up early in the morning and have breakfast, after breakfast you will descend from nyabitaba hut to nyakalengiya where you will be able to spot a number of primates, bird species and a few mammals. After reaching nyakalengiya, you will embark on the journey back to Kampala. A stopover for lunch in mbarara. When you reach Kampala, you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back home.
