DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1; TRANSFER FROM KIGALI TO GISENYI – CONGO BORDER
Early in the morning, you will be picked by the guide at the agreed location where he will brief you about the Congo safari and after embark on your journey to Goma in Congo. At the tourism office you will receive gorilla and volcanic permits that are presented at the start of the trek. After you will proceed to your hotel just outside the Virunga national park.
DAY 2; VIRUNGA GORILLA TREKKING IN CONGO
After the morning breakfast, the driver will drop you at Bukima patrol passport for a briefing. All trekking trails with virunga national park start from there. After you will head to the forest with the help of a ranger. The hike takes 1 to 3 hours until you find the mountain gorillas. When the gorillas are found you will spend with them an hour as you watch their day to day activities. After you will head back to the camp, have late lunch as you relax. You can have nature walks and bird watching as well. After return to your hotel for dinner and night stay.
DAY 3; NYIRAGONGO HIKING
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to the park headquarters to meet the ranger by 8am. After you will start the hike to mount nyiragongo. Meals will be provided and a night stay in a wooden shelter at the top. Once you reach the summit, you will be amused by the beauty of the mountain and the surrounding area.
DAY 4; DESCEND NYIRAGONGO AND PROCEED TO KIGALI
In the morning, you will descend the volcano and head back to kibati where you will meet your driver and transfer back to Kigali. Depending on your flight, you will have a city tour in Kigali at the genocide memorial and kaplaki craft village for souvenir shopping. After you will be dropped at the airport for your flight.
