DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1; TRANSFER FROM KIGALI TO BUKAVU
The driver guide will pick you and give you a briefing about the trip as well what to expect. After we shall drive south of Rwanda as we head to Nyungwe forest national park. While on the way, you will visit Butare Museum and Nyanza kings palace then have lunch. After you will proceed through the long forest stretch as you connect to Rusizi II border and cross into Congo. You will connect to Bukavu and head to your lodge for dinner and a night.
DAY 2; LWIRO CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY
You will have a leisurely breakfast in the morning and the driver guide will pick you and take you to the parks headquarters where the chimpanzees stay. The sanctuary is where the orphaned and harmed chimpanzees are rescued and taken care of. This sanctuary is a home to a various number of chimpanzees. The sanctuary visit is a full day activity after you will head back to your lodge for a refreshment, have dinner and a night stay.
DAY 3; EASTERN LOWLAND GORILLA TREK IN KAHUZI BIEGA NATIONAL PARK
You will have an early breakfast, have a drive to Kahuzi Biega national park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will set out to the forest in search of the lowland gorillas. After locating the gorillas, you will spend with them an hour as you take photos and videos. After the trekking, you will get back to the lodge and relax from the long day activity, have dinner and spend the night.
DAY 4; TRANSFER BACK TO KIGALI
Early in the morning, as you wake up to the last views and breeze of Congo and have breakfast. After, you will embark on the journey back to Kigali as you exit Congo from Rusizi II border and drive through Nyungwe forest with an enroute lunch. Arrive to Kigali and be dropped off at the airport for your flight.
